Welcome to Materials!

You can find information here related to teaching and learning the Junior Certificate science syllabus topic Materials. You can find out about common misconceptions, brush up on your own understanding and find teaching activities and resources related to Materials.

I would suggest that the first place to start is with Misconceptions. As you browse through these common, though incorrect, ideas you might find that some of them are pretty close to your own ideas. For this reason, Misconceptions has been closely link with Check Your Understanding so that you can flick between the two as needed and address your own misconceptions (everyone has them!). Once you have familiarised yourself with pupils’ prior knowledge and have brushed up on your own knowledge, you could check out Teaching Activities, some Diagnostic Questions that you might like to use in class or some Resources that might inspire a lesson plan. The part of the Syllabus dealing with Materials has also been included for easy access as you make your plans.
